Tilt and Turn Windows

One Handle. Three Positions

Enter tilt and turn. Invented in Germany and long since standard in most of Europe, it combines the best features of both and has none of the disadvantages.

Closed

To close a window, turn the handle to face downward. The fittings generally go around the perimeter of the sash and at least 5 locking pins keep the window secure and shut.

Opened

By rotating into the horizontal position, the sash swings fully open like a door. The hinges on one side allow the swinging of the sash. Continue rotating the handle to the full 180° and the casement tilts inwards to allow in fresh air.

Tilted

On most tilt-and-turn windows, turning the handle 180° allows the possibility to tilt the window. By pulling on the handle softly, the window will tilt out of its frame in the top part and will stay in the frame in the bottom part. This is made possible by specific fittings that connect the frame and the sash. The standard angle for the tilt position is 15°. Air exchange can take place through the open gap. Tilting the window makes continuous ventilation possible.

Many people use continuous ventilation to constantly get fresh air into their living spaces – without immediately taking the risk that completely open windows often represent in terms of safety.

With windows and glazed doors, it is not only the glazing that is a security factor, but above all the hardware: because suspected burglars usually bypass breaking through the glazing altogether due to the loud clanking noise and rather try to open the window quietly with a lever or crowbar. Micro-ventilation: a small gap with a big effect

Thanks to tilt-and-turn fittings, windows can not only be easily closed and opened but also only opened by a fraction. This is made possible by the "parallel position," an additional opening function of the fitting system. For ventilation, the window sash moves away from the frame in a circumferential gap of around 6 mm. The purpose of this function is constant ventilation for extended time periods.

Fresh air can consistently circulate through the room whether you are sleeping at night or leaving the house for an extended time. This does not affect the overall safety of your window as it is kept and locked in place the same way as it would in a closed position. Furthermore, the temperature loss is kept to a minimum considering the slower airflow going in and out of the room.

Finally, you may also opt for dual colours to better match both the facade and interior. All products are delivered prefinished and ready to be installed.

Hardware and Fittings

Like heat, sound is nothing more than energy. To reduce external noise, a series of panes, air gaps and gas fillings can be used to make it difficult for sound waves to move through the window, reducing their energy and thereby their volume.

We offer laminated safety glass in various thicknesses to increase security and make forced entry more difficult.  This consists of two sheets of glass sandwiched together with a special foil laminated between them. This prevents glass shards from fall out if broken and thus the window can be hit repeatedly and not shatter. It will produce a spider web pattern such as on damaged car windshields.

It can be easily combined with insulating and soundproofing glass without issue.

With fixed glazing, the windows cannot be opened. They are designed exclusively for magnificent daylight incidence and are often used in conservatories, shop windows or large panoramic windows. With this variant of window opening types, the glass pane is inserted into the frame or a fixed sash.

With a turn left or right window, the window sash can be turned up or opened to the 90° position. The sash is turned completely around the vertical axis – in this case, DIN left (DIN - Deutsches Institut für Normierung - german institute develops norms and standards for various industries). Turn left or right windows are particularly useful in areas where generous and regular ventilation is required, such as in the kitchen or bathroom.

The tilt and turn variant is often used for modern windows. It is maximally flexible and ideal for areas where frequent ventilation is welcome.

Tilt windows can only be tilted a gap at the top end of the frame. After turning the handle, the window sash will open up and is held in position by integrated suspensions. Window opening types such as the tilt variant are mainly found in smaller adjoining rooms that benefit from continuous ventilation.
